Woman in China Adopts Stray Dogs, Then Kills, Cooks, and Eats Them

Stray Dog Recruitment Incident in China

A Chinese woman is currently under investigation for allegedly recruiting stray dogs from rescue groups and subsequently killing them for cooking purposes.

This disturbing situation came to public attention when Zhixuan, who owns a grain shop in the area, began sharing posts and videos on social media, which, rather shockingly, featured the woman cooking the dogs.

Reportedly, she had initially promised to adopt dogs from several animal shelters and care for them. She reached out to shelter staff, inquiring about free adoptions and even agreed to a follow-up visit from a rescue team, according to reports.

However, she soon began to kill the dogs and post images of her cooked dog meat online. One message noted, “The dog meat is ready. Perfect for rainy days with drinks.” In another post, she included a photo of her child eating dog meat, boasting, “It’s great for kids.”

Concerned parties at a local animal shelter soon received numerous reports about her actions and alerted the authorities immediately.

A representative from the Market Supervisory Bureau indicated dog meat had been confiscated as part of the investigation, which is now ongoing.

According to Tan, the director of the rescue group, he has been informing local pet stores about Zhixuan’s actions and emphasized the need for careful screening of individuals looking to adopt pets.

While eating dog meat is not illegal in China, regulations were tightened in 2020. Shenzhen became one of the first cities to outlaw the consumption of dogs and cats, imposing penalties that can be as much as ten times the value of the animal involved.

A similar case drew attention earlier this year when highway workers cooked and ate a pet dog that had escaped from a boarding facility.
