A man from California has been released from prison after being accused of murder late last year, as reported by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.
Jordan Murray, 25, faces murder charges linked to the stabbing of a 40-year-old man on May 18 in the Fair Oaks area.
Earlier in May and June 2024, Murray was also involved in two violent robberies that led to his imprisonment, but he was released in November after a court decision allowing for his mental health needs to be addressed.
The sheriff’s office stated, “Just six months after being released from prison, Murray committed this completely preventable murder.”
Authorities were called to Fair Oaks Boulevard around 8 PM on that Sunday following the attack. Despite attempts to save him, the victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Murder investigators started gathering evidence and interviewing eyewitnesses, discovering that earlier that day, Murray had been in a fight with the victim.
After the initial altercation had ended, the victim went away, but eventually, there was a second confrontation that escalated once more.
During this confrontation, Murray retrieved a knife and stabbed the victim multiple times, inflicting serious and fatal wounds, according to police reports.
Murray was arrested by law enforcement in Sacramento County on Tuesday morning and taken into custody without incident.
While announcing his arrest, the sheriff’s office noted that Murray had committed a robbery at a Dollar Tree in May and another in Fair Oaks in June.
In these incidents, he allegedly used a spray containing “unknown caustic chemicals” to incapacitate victims while making his escape. His arrest took place after he left the scene of the second robbery on an electric bike.
Murray, now back in custody, is facing charges of murder and felony robbery, alongside two previous robbery counts. He is set to appear in court this Thursday.
