Trump’s Confrontation on South African Farmer Persecution
Scott Jennings, a Republican strategist, stated on Wednesday that President Donald Trump needs to address the situation of white farmers being persecuted in South Africa, particularly with President Cyril Ramaphosa.
During a meeting, Trump had his staff lower the lights while showcasing a video of EFF leader Julius Malema, in which a crowd was heard singing a song that included the phrase “Kill the Boer.” Jennings referred to Trump’s choice to play this video as a “boss move.”
“Regardless of the label applied, the reality is that white farmers in South Africa are being murdered,” Jennings commented. “This issue has been obscured by many, including the media in the US, and the South African government seems unwilling to address it, making Trump’s television appearance quite significant.”
“So, if this isn’t genocide now, how many murders must occur before it’s recognized? It’s a bit perplexing,” he added, hinting that the topic is overshadowed by other immigration issues the US is facing.
The Anglican Church has decided to cease its collaboration with the US government on immigrant resettlement following the Trump administration’s announcement regarding the first group of immigrants arriving from Africa.
“The president aims to prevent genocide against these individuals, who are clearly facing discrimination and violence,” Jennings noted. “It was certainly a striking moment in the Oval Office, yet the truth appears to be largely unacknowledged.”
Earlier that day, CNN exited the bilateral meeting as the video was being played.
