Elected Democrat Reportedly Spent Public Funds on Horse-Drawn Carriage and Throne for Extravagant Birthday Celebration

Federal Charges Filed Against Charlotte’s City Council Member

A federal judge has indicted a Charlotte city council member from North Carolina, raising serious allegations. The accusations state that Tiawana Brown misappropriated around $15,000 in relief funds for what was described as a lavish birthday celebration.

According to the indictment, Brown reportedly used a bank account connected to a nonprofit that had received Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) funds. A 2021 party, held prior to her election, reportedly included extravagant features such as horse-drawn carriages, balloon and rose walls, and even rental thrones.

In a twist, Brown asserts that the alleged financial misdeeds occurred before she was elected. She challenges the claim of $124,000 as presented by federal authorities, insisting that a third party submitted the loan application.

Documents reveal that Brown and her daughters, Tigema Brown and Antionet Rouse, face charges related to alleged fraudulent activity with the Small Business Administration’s Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) program. They are said to have submitted multiple false loan applications, which included documents that misrepresented their income and number of employees.

The indictment outlines that at least 15 loan applications were filed in connection with the EIDL or PPP. Notably, Brown has a history, having previously served four years in federal prison for other fraud-related charges.

Facing conspiracy to commit wire fraud and multiple wire fraud accusations, Brown has publicly stated she intends to remain on the city council, despite the serious nature of the allegations. During a press conference, when questioned about whether funds were used for her extravagant birthday party, Brown did not directly respond, instead reiterating that she had repaid the money in question.

If convicted, Brown and her daughters could face lengthy prison sentences, with potential imprisonment of up to 20 years for each charge. In a news release, Brown emphasized that the actions leading to the allegations occurred before her tenure in office, asserting her commitment to transparency and community service.

Attempts to contact Brown for further commentary went unanswered at the time of publication.
