Stabbing Incident at Hamburg Central Station
Several individuals were injured after a woman reportedly stabbed a traveler with a knife on Friday at Hamburg Central Station in Germany.
The suspect, a 39-year-old woman whose identity hasn’t been publicly disclosed yet, was arrested soon after the incident, according to Hamburg police.
Police believe she acted alone, though the reasons behind her actions remain unclear. Authorities are conducting thorough investigations into the matter.
The attack occurred in the late afternoon on the platform situated between tracks 13 and 14. Reports indicate that six people suffered life-threatening injuries, while three others were seriously hurt and three sustained minor injuries. However, police later stated that these figures were not definitive, adding that they could only confirm that several individuals faced life-threatening conditions.
The state-owned railway company, Deutsche Bahn, expressed their sadness over the incident, labeling it a violent act. Following the attack, tracks 11 to 14 were shut down, causing delays and detours for long-distance trains.
In light of the situation, police have confirmed a significant operation is currently in progress.
Interestingly, Hamburg Central Station sees over 550,000 travelers daily, making it the most frequented passenger station in Germany. The station itself has been operational since 1906 and is located just a short distance from the city center, housing 75 shops and restaurants.
This isn’t the first stabbing incident in the area, as a similar event occurred in February at the Holocaust Memorial in Berlin.
