Social Media Platform Faces Major Outage
X, previously known as Twitter, experienced a significant disruption today. The outage kicked off around 6 PM, leaving many users struggling to access the platform. A service monitoring site reported over 2,100 issues at the height of the outage.
Users encountered a range of problems, from signing in to not receiving direct messages. This outage has been particularly frustrating for those trying to access the platform via both desktop and mobile. So far, the company has not released any official comments regarding the situation.
Many social media users have expressed their dissatisfaction over encountering broken links during this downtime.
In recent developments, X stated it would be blocking more than 8,000 accounts in India, following government directives. While the platform complied, it voiced objections about the demands, citing free speech rights.
The social media network mentioned that it received an executive order from the Indian government, which stipulated the blocking of numerous accounts, with potential penalties including hefty fines and possible imprisonment for local employees. This order extends to accounts of international media and prominent X users.
Interestingly, the Indian government has often not clarified which specific posts violate local laws. In many cases, X claims it hasn’t been provided with evidence or reasoning for the account blocks.
