Sen. Kennedy Surprised by Joe Biden’s Swift Loan Approvals Totaling $93 Billion

A recent discussion between Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) and Energy Secretary Chris Wright unveiled surprising details regarding actions taken during former President Joe Biden’s administration.

This revelation has sparked outrage among Democrats, particularly as President Donald Trump’s administration and the government efficiency group (DOGE) highlight issues of waste, fraud, and mismanagement. Reports emerged on Friday.

The focus is on the financial strain impacting American taxpayers. During a Senate Budget Committee hearing this past Wednesday, the conversation between Kennedy and Wright revolved around a 76-day timeframe right after Trump’s election when Biden took office.

“How much taxpayer money went out the door from the Department of Energy during that brief period of 76 days?” Kennedy questioned, adding, “We’ve approved $93 billion in loans and commitments, which is more than double what was done in the last 15 years combined.”

He continued, “How is it possible to conduct proper loan due diligence in just 76 days? One loan, $93 billion less. How does that even happen?” In response, Wright acknowledged that, in many instances, such due diligence likely didn’t occur.

He elaborated, “I’ve seen significant funds allocated to businesses that haven’t submitted business plans or shown proof of their financial viability.”

Kennedy pressed on, prompting further comments from Wright, who agreed and mentioned, “I’ve raised serious concerns about the operations of this institution and the way taxpayer money has been managed.”

Opinions from social media reflected a range of reactions to the exchange, with one user stating, “The Democrats are thieves!” while another expressed the need for “serious investigations to address this corruption; we deserve better after voting for change.”

Another instance of loan mismanagement during Biden’s term arose in 2023, when substantial funds were lent to Ford and its battery partners to establish three electric vehicle battery plants in support of green energy initiatives, according to Breitbart News.

In February, Kennedy drew attention to problematic findings led by Elon Musk’s Doge, remarking, “Musk is doing what Americans have long desired, but in Washington, common sense is often disregarded.”
