We’re facing financial losses with the GOP bill and prefer not to reduce services for migrants.

NY Governor Discusses Impact of Republican Tax Bill

In a recent interview with Telemundo 47, New York Governor Kathy Hochul expressed concerns about the financial implications of the Republican tax and spending bill. When questioned about potential healthcare losses and service cuts for immigrants, she hesitated, stating, “I don’t want to go there.” She emphasized the need to think seriously about the consequences of leaving these individuals without essential support.

“No state can compensate for these cuts,” she continued. “We simply lack the funds. As a result, people will lose access to healthcare services, including those that benefit our undocumented communities. A significant number of our families rely on Medicaid, especially for nursing home care.”

Host Alejandro Mendoza inquired whether New York might adopt measures similar to those in California to support immigrants. Hochul replied, “I don’t want to go there. This represents lost funding from the federal government, which has previously aided us financially. We must take into account that we cannot leave these people without necessary care.”
