Clinton Critiques Trump and Discusses Democratic Leadership
Former President Bill Clinton has openly criticized President Donald Trump, suggesting that he has “thrown away the country’s heritage.” During an appearance on CBS Sunday, Clinton expressed mixed feelings about Trump’s approach to governance.
“We’ve never seen anything like this in my lifetime. Someone who says, ‘Whatever I want should be the law of the land. It’s my way or the highway.’ And I think most Americans don’t agree with that,” Clinton commented. He added, “I think he’s paying the price for this approach. It doesn’t seem to be making him very popular.”
Clinton went on to emphasize the Democratic Party’s stance against Trump and the significance of the upcoming 2026 midterm elections, which could lead to a shakeup in the House, where Republicans currently hold a slight majority.
“The only thing that will change this,” he stated. “I think the courts are becoming overly involved. He seems to be closing his legal firm because they don’t align with his views, representing clients in federal matters.
“The courts are limiting the president, even many judges he has appointed. He appears to be searching for ways to disregard these court orders, but I doubt it will be easy for him.”
Despite Clinton’s assertions, a recent Rasmussen poll indicated that Trump has a 53% approval rating.
Additionally, a CNN/SSRS survey revealed that only 16% of those surveyed believe the Democrats are showing strong leadership, with 40% expressing similar views about the GOP.
When asked if the only consensus among Democrats is their disdain for Trump, Clinton replied, “If I thought so, I wouldn’t be addressing it. I believe many are criticizing the Democrats at the moment.”
“Trump is entitled to pursue what he believes is right. The courts have their role. We’re approaching other elections. Yet, it’s vital to acknowledge that our common ground is paramount. We can’t lose sight of our country’s heritage or erode others’ trust. We need to remain composed, and that’s my perspective,” he added.
The discussion also referenced Jake Tupper’s recent book, “Original Singh: The Death, Cover-up and the Disastrous Choice of Running Again.”
Clinton remarked that he believes President Joe Biden is doing “a good job.” He noted, though, that Biden’s age might be a concern.
“The only issue I felt he needed to navigate was whether someone could effectively serve until 86,” he commented. “I haven’t read the book, but when I met with President Biden recently, he seemed to be in good shape, although the book didn’t stick with me.”
“I think he’s done well, facing unprecedented challenges in our history today,” Clinton added.
