A Colorado man, Mohamed Sabri Soliman, who is linked to the Muslim Brotherhood, a radical Islamic organization, has been accused of carrying out a brutal firebombing plot against a gathering related to Jewish hostages. His social media accounts were reportedly filled with messages supporting the Brotherhood.
Soliman, a 45-year-old Egyptian national, has a Facebook page that showcases his backing of the Muslim Brotherhood, as mentioned by CNN.
A decade-old profile featured many images of Mohamed Morsi, who led Egypt from 2012 until a military coup ousted him in 2013. Morsi was notable as the country’s first democratically elected president, promising reforms that would promote transparency and respect for human rights.
However, protests erupted against Morsi, accusing him of claiming excessive power, resorting to violence against opposition, and enforcing the Brotherhood’s conservative Islamic practices.
Reports indicate some of Soliman’s posts endorsed protests against Morsi’s removal. In one post from August 2013, he displayed a four-finger salute, a symbol tied to the Rabaa protest camp.
These social media activities surfaced shortly after Soliman allegedly injured multiple individuals by using gasoline bombs during a peaceful pro-Israel demonstration in Boulder.
During investigations, Soliman reportedly expressed a desire to “kill all the Zionist people,” revealing that he had been planning the attack for a year. Authorities noted that he opted for Molotov cocktails over firearms, likely due to his undocumented status in the U.S., which barred him from legally acquiring guns.
Documents from the court indicate that Soliman had settled in Colorado Springs three years prior with his wife and five children, following a lengthy stay in Kuwait lasting 17 years.
