Air Canada Celebrates Its First All-2SLGBTQIA+ Flight

Air Canada marked a significant milestone by announcing its “first All-2SLGBTQIA+” flight in a recent social media post. The company expressed that this celebration represented its ongoing dedication to inclusiveness and equality, both in the air and on the ground. To accompany the announcement, a video was shared as well.

The term “2SLGBTQIA+” encompasses various identities, including Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer or Questioning, Intersex, and Asexual. The “+” aims to highlight the spectrum of identities within the community.

Jean François, a station attendant featured in the video, shared his excitement about the event, stating, “I thought it was a great initiative for the whole community. It’s a bit thrilling to be part of this flight today.” Another attendant, Rene JR, echoed similar sentiments, saying, “I’m here to support my daughter. One of my four children is part of this community, and when I saw the opportunity to support her even more, I quickly signed up.”

Juan, the first mate, also expressed his pride in the initiative, remarking that this moment signifies a welcoming spirit and acceptance of all identities.

However, not all reactions to the post were positive. Some critics took to social media to voice their disapproval. Curtis Houck, an editor, questioned the announcement, asking if it was a parody. Another commentator, Canadian blogger Mark Slapinski, remarked on Air Canada’s approach as “completely awakened,” inviting others who felt the same to raise their hands if they wouldn’t fly with the airline again.

As of now, Air Canada has not responded to requests for comment regarding the mixed reactions.
