Newsom taunts Hegseth and Trump for their ‘job well done’ message about the National Guard

Newsom mocks Hegseth, Trump over 'job well done' post on National Guard

California Governor Newsom Responds to Tensions with Trump Administration

On Sunday, California Governor Gavin Newsom found humor in a post on Social Platform X, as tensions escalated between his administration and the Trump administration regarding protests against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

This response came after a post from Hegses on X that included screenshots of Trump discussing his social platform and celebrating the National Guard after what he termed “two days of violence, conflict, and anxiety.” Newsom commented, laughing at both Hegses and Trump, referring to them as “smart people.”

“The clever guys are running the operation. When Trump shared that, the National Guard hadn’t even made it on the ground,” Newsom remarked. He was referencing a 2015 incident where a man was struck by something thrown by Hegses, which he mentioned in his own post on X.

In response to the ongoing protests against ICE, Trump announced the deployment of 2,000 National Guard troops to the Los Angeles area. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated the move was a reaction to “violent mobs” that had targeted federal law enforcement involved in deportation operations.

“These operations are crucial to stop and reverse the influx of illegal criminals into the United States. The violence has made it clear that Democratic leaders in California are shirking their duty to protect their citizens. That’s why President Trump has sent in 2,000 National Guardsmen and issued a presidential memorandum,” she said.

Early Sunday morning, California State Guard troops arrived in Los Angeles, with the US Northern Command confirming they had already been deployed to the area.

Newsom’s Press Office also criticized a post referencing the Capitol riots of January 6, 2021, following remarks from the Trump administration regarding the situation in Los Angeles, which mentioned “violent rioters.”

Inquiries were sent to the White House, the Pentagon, and the Department of Homeland Security for their comments on the matter.
