Rod Stewart Embraces Healthy Lifestyle at 80

Rod Stewart turned 80 this past January and, in a light-hearted manner, he mentioned that “many women, drugs, wine” helped him juggle his busy performance schedule. However, he has since swapped many of those rock and roll habits for healthier ones.

In an interview with AARP, Stewart reflected on his upcoming years and shared that he played soccer for much of his life. Unfortunately, knee issues have limited his activity. He has been working with a trainer for the last 38 years to maintain his fitness.

The legendary singer has access to an indoor pool, a substantial gym, and a golf course, which he utilizes regularly. “We do a lot of underwater training,” he explained. “The trainers toss bricks into the pool, and I swim down to retrieve them.”

Despite announcing a farewell tour, Stewart insists he has no intention to retire. He stated, “I think I’m still sexy,” and jokingly aims to beat his personal best in a 100-meter sprint, hoping to achieve 17 seconds. In a previous chat, he noted his underwater workouts were inspired by techniques used in the British Special Air Service.

Stewart also shared insights on his pre-show preparations. He stressed the importance of vocal rest, saying, “If your voice gets husky, just don’t talk for eight hours,” and emphasized hydration during tours. He likes to arrive at venues well in advance to get a massage to prep for the show.

In a more recent development, he announced the cancellation of several performances due to an ongoing battle with the flu, expressing his apologies to fans on social media. He had to cancel additional shows at his Las Vegas residency, citing a need for more rest as advised by his doctor.

Overall, Stewart seems to be in good spirits about his career, stating, “I love what I do and do what I love.” He mentioned that his Las Vegas residency will continue until early October and has even been recognized for his contributions to music, recently receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award at the American Music Awards.

Looking back, he celebrated his milestone birthday in style, renting a lavish yacht for the occasion, reflecting a blend of familial warmth and indulgence. “You only turn 80 once,” he mused, revealing that the celebration brought together his eight children, five grandchildren, and various loved ones.
