California Sheriff Criticizes Governor Over LA Riots
The sheriff of Riverside County, Chad Bianco, who is running for governor, has openly criticized Governor Gavin Newsom. He claims that Newsom is “fueling” the recent riots in Los Angeles by hampering law enforcement efforts against those involved in violent protests.
Bianco stated that the individuals involved weren’t simply protesting against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Instead, he argued that they’re undermining what he sees as the framework of a civilized society. “This isn’t just about immigration policy. They’re trying to create a significant impact through political means, which goes against the Constitution,” he said, speaking as a Republican candidate for governor.
“To uphold civilization, we need to follow the rule of law. Ignoring this leads to consequences that we can’t afford,” he added.
Bianco urged Newsom to “put the phone down… and just be quiet,” suggesting that the governor is only worsening the situation. “He really doesn’t understand law enforcement. He’s hindered the police and, in a way, encouraged this unrest,” he asserted.
President Trump also blamed media outlets for not adequately addressing the violence that erupted in LA over the weekend. In response to the turmoil, Trump has sent Marines and National Guard personnel to the city. Meanwhile, Newsom has reacted by filing a lawsuit against the Trump administration.
In a somewhat tangential comment, Tom Homan, referred to as the White House’s “border emperor,” remarked that there are no plans to arrest Newsom, even after Trump hinted at potential actions against him.
“Gavin loves to promote his narrative, and that’s just fine,” Trump mentioned during a press briefing.
