In the ongoing investigation into the death of high school student Austin Metcalf in Frisco, Texas, the school district has confirmed the existence of surveillance footage from the incident. This event took place on April 2 at Kuykendall Stadium during a regional athletics competition.
The Frisco Independent School District has stated that while they have the footage, it hasn’t been made public yet. The incident involved Metcalf, 17, a student at Memorial High School, and Carmelo Anthony, also 17, a student at Frisco Centennial High School. The confrontation arose due to a dispute after rain delayed the event.
Authorities report that Anthony fatally stabbed Metcalf in the chest. Interestingly, the two teens didn’t have any prior relationship; their argument escalated quickly. An arrest report provides some context, indicating Metcalf had asked Anthony to vacate the commemorative team tent, to which Anthony responded aggressively, threatening Metcalf.
After the brief exchange, Metcalf attempted to push Anthony out of the tent. According to witnesses, Anthony later retrieved a knife from his bag and, after some struggle, stabbed Metcalf. Tragically, Metcalf succumbed to his injuries in front of his twin brothers.
Following the stabbing, Anthony was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. He maintains that he acted in self-defense during their altercation. His bond, which initially was set at $1 million, has since been reduced to $250,000. Conditions of his release include home confinement with an ankle monitor and the requirement to get permission from a judge to leave his residence.
