CBP Introduces Enhanced Technology for Streamlined Airport Experience

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is launching new technology aimed at making your trips—especially as summer approaches—smoother and more efficient.

The initiative, known as “Enhanced Passenger Processing,” uses automated photography to alert CBP officers about passenger details before they even reach the passport check. This tech is meant to streamline the inspection process significantly.

Diane Sabatino, acting executive assistant commissioner at CBP, explained in a press release that there’s a strong commitment to enhancing national security while also making legitimate travel easier. “By utilizing advanced technology and mobile applications, we’re aiming to transform airport inspections into a more seamless and touchless process,” she added. This approach is designed to identify risks among travelers more efficiently.

Currently, this enhanced processing is available at 10 U.S. airports and one international location. The airports include major hubs like John F. Kennedy International, Orlando International, and Los Angeles International, just to name a few.

There’s some ongoing discussion about expanding this technology to an additional ten airports, with plans to introduce it at Montreal Trudeau International Airport next month.

Figures from CBP reveal that over 420 million travelers were processed at ports of entry last year, marking a 6.6% increase from the year before. That’s a pretty significant jump, right?

Members of the Global Entry program will benefit from the “Seamless Border Entry” technology, which aims to enhance their travel experience even further by allowing for auto-captured photos. This tech is intended to enable quick passage through inspection with minimal interaction with CBP officers, although it still depends on the discretion of those officers.

The final location for the Seamless Border Entry technology will soon open at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Airport this month. It’s interesting to think about how much technology is changing travel, isn’t it? It certainly seems like a step toward making life easier for travelers everywhere.
