Controversy Erupts Over Los Angeles Riots
California Democratic Representative Maxine Waters accused President Donald Trump of igniting a five-day riot in Los Angeles after he claimed the city was peaceful. This claim came as Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass announced a curfew for parts of the city following the unrest, which began when ICE agents conducted operations at a Home Depot in the area.
Waters criticized Trump during an appearance on “CNN News Central,” pointing out that he had not taken responsibility for the recent violence, reminiscent of the Capitol invasion he had previously led. “The President needs to do what he failed to do then,” Waters stated. “He should engage with local law enforcement and take accountability for what’s happening. This unrest is his doing, and he shouldn’t condone violence.”
In response to the ongoing riots, Trump ordered the deployment of 700 Marines to support federal security forces. Amid these events, footage circulated showing a person named Elpidreina throwing rocks at vehicles, prompting the FBI to announce a reward for information about his arrest.
Despite visible destruction, including damaged and burning vehicles, Waters maintained that “there was no violence” occurring in the city. During a discussion on “The Situation Room,” she asserted that actions taken by protesters did not amount to violence. “The police don’t have authority here, so it’s a matter of collaboration with the governor,” she added.
Calls from other Democrats are growing to pause ICE operations in Los Angeles in hopes of restoring order.
