Ranch Fire spreads in Southern California following the devastating Line Fire in San Bernardino County earlier this year

Fire crews managed to contain and extinguish a wildfire that erupted in Southern California on Tuesday. Within hours, the situation escalated, prompting evacuations.

According to Cal Fire, the wildfire ignited near Apple Valley in San Bernardino County just after 2:30 PM local time. Initially, the flames covered about 80 acres, but they began to spread quickly.

In about four hours, the fire surged to 2,000 acres, eventually ballooning to over 4,200 acres by Tuesday night.

By Wednesday afternoon, containment stood at just 10%, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Evacuations were ordered for residents in the vicinity of Mill Pass Drive, south of Highway 18, urging them and their pets to seek safety.

For those affected, an evacuation center has been established at Sitting Bull Academy on Bull Road, and the Victor Building Fairgrounds are available for housing large animals.

Recent Fires Haunt the Region

This wildfire appears just months after a destructive line fire that scorched around 44,000 acres in September 2024.

During those incidents, tens of thousands of structures were at risk, and it took weeks of dedicated efforts to bring the flames under control.

A time-lapse video captured the line fire engulfing the area, showing flames engulfing the camera for about an hour before the feed was disrupted.

No fatalities have been reported so far, but at least six firefighters sustained injuries while battling the flames.

The earlier line fire was deemed arson, leading to the arrest of a 34-year-old man on September 10 in connection with those incidents, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office.
