Trump and Putin Discuss Iran-Israel Conflict
WASHINGTON – On Saturday, President Donald Trump revealed that during a morning call, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed hope for an end to the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel.
Trump shared that Putin conveyed his thoughts on the situation after wishing him a happy birthday. “President Putin wished me a happy birthday this morning, but more importantly, we discussed Iran, which he understands well. We’ve talked at length about it,” Trump mentioned.
He also noted that a significant number of prisoners were being exchanged between the two sides, saying, “The call lasted about an hour. He mentioned that this war in Israel and Iran should come to a close, and his own conflict should also cease.”
This announcement followed reports of attacks on Israel by Iranian military leaders and scientists, as well as significant infrastructure targets, according to news sources.
In response that same day, Iran launched multiple attacks on Tel Aviv. This Israeli retaliation followed Trump’s earlier comments expressing that he wouldn’t support military action if Israel could negotiate effectively regarding Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
Trump commented, “It might help, but it could also complicate things,” while he signed a bill in the East Room of the White House. After the Israeli strikes, he pointed out that the Iranian leadership had neglected his 60-day ultimatum to reach a deal and hinted at potential new negotiations with Iran.
He added, “A couple of months ago, I issued Iran an ultimatum of 60 days to ‘make a deal.’ They should have done that,” he posted on social media.
A senior official from the Trump administration indicated that Matthew Boyle, the head of Breitbart’s Washington Bureau, would not convene a meeting on Sunday with Middle Eastern diplomats regarding Iran, but the White House remained hopeful for future discussions.
“While there won’t be a meeting this Sunday, we are dedicated to continuing dialogue and hope the Iranians will soon come to the table,” the official stated.
