Several officers sustained injuries during tumultuous riots outside an Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Portland, Oregon, on Saturday night.
Participants in the uprising unleashed fireworks, fired rubber bullets, and hurled rocks at federal agents. Tricia McLaughlin, a deputy secretary for homeland security, relayed this information to Fox News Digital, noting the chaotic scene as individuals broke windows and attempted to breach the facility.
While federal law enforcement managed to secure the area, four officers were reported injured during the unrest.
The violence followed a “No Kings” protest that had begun downtown earlier in the day, with tens of thousands marching and returning to Waterfront Park by around 4 PM.
As the situation escalated, the Portland Police Department (PPB) declared the gathering illegal around 6:30 PM, advising that crowd control tactics, which could include impact ammunition, might be necessary.
Shortly thereafter, the PPB reported a medical incident within the ICE facility, prompting healthcare personnel to respond.
Authorities warned protesters not to interfere, stating on social media that “force could be used against you.” By approximately 8 PM, officers were prepared to monitor for criminal activities, including assaults, which could lead to targeted arrests.
The PPB reiterated their warning in subsequent posts, advising people to comply with police actions, as noncompliance could result in arrests.
Many details regarding the number of arrests remain unclear.
“These riots are explicitly targeting federal law enforcement, and we will not stand idly by,” McLaughlin stated firmly. “Secretary [Kristi] Noem’s message to the crowd is unmistakable: we will not be deterred. ICE and our federal partners will continue to uphold the law. Any assault on law enforcement will be prosecuted to the fullest.”
This riot coincided with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) addressing doxxing incidents involving ICE agents, as posters with their personal information had been placed around the city.
DHS emphasized that it would not be hindered by threats. “We are undeterred by mob violence,” they stated. “Our immigration enforcement efforts will continue to intensify. Those targeting law enforcement in Portland are engaging in reprehensible behavior, and their leadership must call for an end to this.”
As of now, the PPB had not provided immediate comments to inquiries.
