Netanyahu’s Stance on Preemptive Attack on Iran

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the potential outcomes of a preemptive strike on Iran, suggesting that while a government change wasn’t necessarily the main goal, it could be a positive development.

“If we address the Iranian situation, I genuinely believe we could foresee a brighter future,” Netanyahu stated. In a recent appearance on a special edition of Fox News’ Sunday program, he discussed the Arab response to Israel’s military actions.

“Iran represents a persistent source of war, sabotage, and terrorism,” he continued. “Their ambition is to dominate the Middle East, and so far, Israel has been a significant hurdle for them.”

Last week, Israel executed preemptive strikes targeting multiple Iranian nuclear sites, eliminating high-ranking military officials and crucial scientists, among others.

Reports from Axios and Reuters suggested that former President Trump was involved in the assassination of Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, although Netanyahu remained noncommittal on the matter.

Khamenei, now 86, has been in power since 1989, and speculation about his potential successor continues, especially after the death of hardliner former president Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash last year.

Israeli officials are optimistic that military action could lead to the downfall of the Iranian regime. “The Iranian government is notably fragile, so a change isn’t out of the question,” Netanyahu remarked when asked about the intent behind their operations.

“Essentially, Iran is left with just two major assets: a nuclear weapon plan and a ballistic missile capability. They lack popular support.” Netanyahu added that he has reached out to the Iranian public via video messages, urging them to resist the ruling clerics.

“I tell them to stand up for freedom—your time is coming,” he said regarding his outreach efforts.

In the last couple of years, Israel has significantly weakened several adversaries. They targeted former Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and carried out a remarkable operation that eliminated high-ranking figures in terrorist organizations.

In addition, the Syrian Assad regime experienced turmoil, with the new leader Ahmed al-Shara expressing interest in mending ties with Israel. Israel also dealt severe blows to Hamas, taking out leaders like Yahya Sinwar.

Nevertheless, Iran, which influences many of these proxy groups, remains Israel’s most formidable opponent.

Netanyahu characterized the recent airstrikes against Iran as merely “the beginning,” occurring just before scheduled talks between Tehran and the U.S. in Oman, which were eventually called off.

Trump has publicly speculated that a deal between Iran and Israel could be forthcoming and that a preemptive strike could hasten that process.
