Evangelicals Stand Firm on Trump’s Support for Israel Amid Conflict

Influential evangelical leaders in the U.S. are expressing strong confidence in President Donald Trump’s unwavering support for Israel, especially as the Jewish nation faces tensions with Iran. This sentiment emerged before and after the initiation of Israel’s military operations against Iranian forces, highlighting deep-seated connections between Jews and their ancestral lands, often drawing on shared biblical teachings.

The evangelical community played a vital role in energizing Trump’s presidential campaign, advocating for his administration to back what they see as Israel’s historical and biblical entitlements in regions like Judea and Samaria. One leader emphasized their significant voter base, noting, “There are about 52 million evangelicals in America. We’re committed to this cause.” They pointed to biblical verses, citing, “Jesus said, ‘You shall be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria.’” Their organization reportedly has around 30 million members.

Trump has remarked that while Israel and Iran must engage in conflict, he remains optimistic about potential trade opportunities. The leader of this evangelical movement praised Trump’s strategy against Iran, asserting that it underscores a strong stance—suggesting that if Iran attacks U.S. or Middle Eastern bases, they will face severe consequences.

Rev. John Haggie, prominent in evangelical circles, pointed out that Israel remains a pivotal issue for American evangelicals, who view support for it as fundamentally rooted in their faith rather than in political agendas. He describes Iranian diplomacy or engagements with terrorists as not only misguided but ethically unacceptable.

As tensions escalated before Israel’s military action against Iran, Haggie expressed skepticism regarding Trump allowing negotiations to proceed with Iranian representatives or American isolationists.

Following Israel’s surprise attacks, Haggie urged his network to contact Trump, emphasizing the necessity of standing with Israel during this critical time. He stated, “Only the Iranian people can reclaim their country. The U.S. must take a prominent role in supporting Israel and protecting those who value freedom in the region.”

Meanwhile, Franklin Graham, leader of the Samaritan’s Purse, highlighted the looming threat Iran poses not just to Israel, but also to the United States. He remarked, “Iran has explicitly stated their intentions to obliterate Israel and destroy America.” Graham urged believers to pray for peace, citing a biblical directive to support Jerusalem.

Both Graham and Haggie discussed the longstanding biblical ties between Jews and their homeland, reinforcing the community’s belief in supporting Israel.

Haggie raised concerns about recent anti-Semitic incidents in the U.S., advocating for legislative measures to combat this growing extremism. He expressed frustration over congressional delays in addressing these issues and the dangers of anti-Semitic rhetoric proliferating throughout the country.

Officials within the evangelical community shared insights on an upcoming conference aimed at recognizing Palestinian statehood, which they believe undermines Israeli security. They feel reassured that Trump is opposed to this initiative, viewing support for a Palestinian state as a misconception tied to land concessions that could jeopardize Israel’s existence.

Evans articulated a belief that for peace to be achieved, Palestinians must abandon terrorist activities, aligning with the moral clarity many evangelicals advocate.
