Tragic Father’s Day Incident in Florida
A heartbreaking event occurred in Florida on Father’s Day, leading to the tragic death of a father while trying to save his daughter from drowning.
Antwon Wilson, 33, was celebrating the holiday with his family at a beach near the B-Ocean Resort in Fort Lauderdale when he noticed his daughter struggling in the water. In a courageous attempt to help, he rushed into the ocean.
According to Battalion Chief Danny Moran, Wilson was close enough to reach his daughter, managing to keep her afloat briefly before succumbing to the waves.
The lifeguard, who had just closed the tower about 20 minutes earlier, quickly returned to the scene to assist with the emergency.
Moran mentioned that the lifeguards were instrumental as first responders in this ordeal.
A bystander, Eslam Saad, who was on vacation from Ohio, also jumped in to help. He didn’t think twice upon hearing cries for assistance.
“I didn’t tell my wife I was going back into the water,” Saad recalled. “I just jumped in,” he added, highlighting the urgency of the situation.
Struggling amidst the turbulent waves, Saad managed to reach one of Wilson’s daughters. As he approached her, he reassured her, “I know you’re scared, but I’ll do my best to help you.”
He instructed her to stand on his shoulders and jump towards safety. “I think I did what I could to get her closer to the shore,” he stated, expressing relief when she finally made it to land.
Rescuers successfully brought the young girl back safely, but Wilson was missing for several minutes. When they located him, he was rushed to shore, and CPR was administered.
Unfortunately, Wilson was later pronounced dead at Broward Health Medical Center. His daughter was released from the hospital, reportedly recovering well.
Saad, who has a daughter around the same age as Wilson’s children, expressed his sorrow over the tragic outcome. “I wanted to do more,” he shared, reflecting on the weight of the situation.
