Border Patrol Focus in Los Angeles County

Los Angeles County, California. In a parking lot of a strip mall, car horns blared as one driver closely followed an unmarked US Border Patrol SUV. The agent quickly ushered the driver out, but he remained fixated on the vehicle, soon realizing he had passed by two more unmarked units. For a moment, our vehicle managed to avoid being noticed. But soon after, a masked man began recording the SUV. A Border Patrol agent rolled down the window to see what he wanted.

“We don’t welcome you here. You seem scared of our community. This isn’t right. You’re scaring hard-working people. You’re not searching for actual criminals, and you know it,” the masked man confronted the agent. “Why? Why are you doing this?”

When the agent explained that their duties were required by law, the man countered, “It’s an immoral law.”

Later that day, Border Patrol apprehended Juan Diego Euan at a Home Depot in Cerritos for being in the country illegally. After his arrest, it was revealed he had a serious criminal history.

Euan, originally from Mexico, had been convicted in 2015 of engaging in sexual acts with a minor under the age of 16 and served two years in prison. He had also faced multiple charges for illegal entry previously.

El Centro’s chief patrol agent, Gregory Bovino, stated that Euan’s arrest highlights the fact that “child sexual predators can blend in with the working community.” He mentioned that contrary to the mayor’s assertions, stores like Home Depot might indeed attract criminal aliens.

Meanwhile, Mayor Karen Bass (D) commented on the issue, arguing that targeting undocumented workers could negatively impact the local economy, as it relies on immigrant labor.

The narrative sometimes oversimplifies, suggesting that all workers at locations like Home Depot are just hardworking individuals with no past indiscretions, but that isn’t always the case. “Imagine someone brings a day laborer home, completely unaware that they once committed an assault,” the masked man argued.

In another incident, Border Patrol agents operated at Pico Rivera, but faced local backlash. Witnesses in a Walmart parking lot accused an agent of aggressive driving, which led to altercations and at least one arrest.
