Newsom Challenges Vance to Debate
California Governor Gavin Newsom has thrown down the gauntlet, inviting Vice President JD Vance to engage in a debate. He tweeted, “Hey @jdvance – I’m glad you finally put it out in California. You want to talk about me, so why not say it in my face? Let’s argue. Time and place?” This challenge came on a Friday.
As of now, Vance has yet to respond to Newsom’s invitation on social media platforms.
Vance Critiques LA Leadership
Meanwhile, in Los Angeles, Vance didn’t hold back on his criticism of Governor Newsom and the city’s Mayor, Karen Bass. He claimed that the governor “puts law enforcement at risk.”
In response, Newsom’s communications director, Izzy Gardon, called Vance a “liar” in a statement, asserting that his claims are false and lack any substantial evidence. Gardon also encouraged Vance to provide proof for his allegations, emphasizing that the governor has frequently condemned Vance’s stance on law enforcement.
In a pertinent social media post, Newsom advised, “Los Angeles: Don’t take Trump’s bait. Trump wants chaos and incites violence. Anyone who assaults law enforcement or damages property puts arrests at risk. Stay in peace. Stay focused. Don’t give him the excuse he’s looking for.”
Gardon’s comment regarding “Jose Vance” seems to stem from Vance’s earlier reference to “Jose Padilla.”
Padilla reacted to Vance’s remark, stating in a statement on MSNBC that it reflects the administration’s “light and unsafe” approach.
