Mother of Bronx teenager who died in 2018 gang violence supports Cuomo for mayor

A Bronx mother, Leandra Feliz, whose son was murdered back in 2018, recently expressed her support for former Governor Andrew Cuomo, believing he is the right choice to address the ongoing crime in the city.

“I can’t bear the thought of other parents losing their children,” Feliz shared in an exclusive statement about her backing of Cuomo.

She added, “We really need someone who can make changes—it’s essential with the current crime situation.”

Feliz attended a press conference with Cuomo in the Bronx, reflecting on the tragic loss of her son, Lesandro “Junior” Guzman Feliz, nearly seven years ago. He was a victim of a gang attack by the “Trinitarios” gang.

Cuomo is running as a frontrunner in the upcoming Democratic mayoral primary, positioning himself as a pro-law-and-order candidate. He has criticized Rep. Zoran Mamdani, portraying him as too extreme for wanting to defund the police.

At the press event, Cuomo promised to hire 5,000 new police officers, emphasizing that “experience matters” in governance.

This comes amid a backdrop of rising crime concerns, with Mamdani advocating for measures to refund the NYPD.

Feliz has decorated her home as a tribute to her late son, with artwork and pillows featuring smiling faces. She wears a jacket honoring Junior, inscribed with “We’ve gone but haven’t forgotten.”

Expressing deep concern for safety in New York, she said, “Nobody feels safe anymore. It’s frightening. We urgently need to take action to halt the violence. This isn’t just for me—it’s for everyone.” She concluded with an emotional plea: “I don’t want any more parents to endure this loss.”
