Trump Launches Attacks on Iranian Nuclear Facilities
WASHINGTON – President Trump surprised the world on Saturday by ordering bomb strikes on three Iranian nuclear sites, deploying B-2 bombers from the US Air Force. This came after what seemed to be a strategic misdirection, leading many to believe a strike wasn’t imminent.
On Thursday, he had indicated a decision would be made in the “next two weeks,” creating speculation following Israel’s recent airstrikes. His remarks suggested a possible opening for negotiations, although they were made just days before the unprecedented US attack.
“We will determine our course of action in the next couple of weeks, depending on the potential for negotiations with Iran that may or may not occur soon,” Trump stated, right before the airstrikes took place.
The timing of the operation caught some off guard, especially since it was believed that six B-2 bombers capable of carrying a 30,000-pound bunker-buster bomb wouldn’t reach their target until later in the weekend.
Notably, the B-2 is among the few aircraft that can effectively deploy such heavy munitions, equipped to take out underground facilities. On the other hand, Israel does not possess the aircraft necessary for such operations and recently used a powerful 2,000-pound bomb.
Further Developments on US Bombing of Iran’s Nuclear Sites
Trump announced the military action shortly after returning from a golf outing in Bedminster, New Jersey. He claimed:
“We successfully attacked three Iranian nuclear sites, including Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan. All aircraft are now safely outside Iran’s airspace.” He continued, “The full payload has been released at the Fordow site, and all planes are en route home. Congratulations to our incredible military personnel. We did this! Now is the time for peace. Thank you.”
