Trump Announces Military Strike on Iranian Nuclear Facilities

President Donald Trump addressed the nation after the U.S. military successfully targeted three significant Iranian nuclear sites late on Saturday evening. The facilities involved were Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan, and Trump described the operation as a substantial military success, noting that these names have been associated with Iran’s dangerous nuclear ambitions for years.

In his remarks, he recalled, “For 40 years, Iran has been chanting ‘Death to America’ and ‘Death to Israel.’ They have caused great losses, particularly through their use of roadside bombs, leading to the deaths of thousands of people.” This speech followed his earlier announcement about a potential decision on military action against Iran, which he expected to make within two weeks.

His spokesperson, Caroline Leavitt, mentioned that there was a “significant possibility” of negotiations in the near future with Iran, ahead of Trump’s planned decision. However, negotiations have stalled, with Iran delaying discussions that were set to take place on June 15 in Oman. On June 12, Israel had already begun a preemptive strike against Iran, based on intelligence that suggested Iran’s nuclear program was advancing rapidly.

Trump subsequently announced the military strikes through a social media post, detailing that the U.S. had executed three significant attacks. Reports indicated that six bunkerbuster bombs were used at the Fordow facility, deployed from a B-2 stealth bomber, along with 30 Tomahawk missiles aimed at the Natanz and Isfahan sites.

Prior to the strike, six B-2 bombers were reportedly heading toward Guam, although they might not have arrived in time for the operation. There was speculation about additional aircraft being involved to ensure the strikes occurred as planned.

Jennifer Griffin, a correspondent for Fox News, noted that the timing of the bomber’s deployment could suggest a larger operation was underway, rather than a delay in decision-making as suggested by some reports.

Israel’s early actions preceded these U.S. strikes, prompted by ongoing concerns regarding Iran’s nuclear program advancement. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu justified the strike as essential for Israel’s survival, emphasizing that if left unchecked, Iran could quickly develop nuclear weapons.

The U.S. operation, dubbed “Operation Raising Lion,” aimed at crippling Iran’s nuclear and missile infrastructure while simultaneously eliminating key Iranian military figures.
