Incident at Aldi Grocery Store
Earlier today, my 66-year-old grandmother visited an Aldi grocery store located on the south side of Chicago. According to reports, she parked her Black 2024 Buick SUV and started to walk towards the store with her grandson.
Things took a dark turn when an 18-year-old named Keshaun Gilmore allegedly approached her at gunpoint, demanding her keys while her grandson was nearby. The situation escalated, and before long, Gilmore drove off with the SUV.
Thankfully, the incident was captured on surveillance video on June 8, allowing authorities to act quickly. It seems, however, that Gilmore didn’t have much luck as a license plate reader on the Dan Ryan Expressway picked up the stolen vehicle around 4:30 PM. Chicago police located the SUV within about 30 minutes in a nearby area.
When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, Gilmore reportedly tried to evade arrest by turning off the headlights and running through red lights. The chase, though short-lived, ended when the SUV crashed, prompting all occupants to flee. Gilmore, however, was apprehended, still wearing the same clothes from the Aldi incident. Authorities found a Glock handgun on the driver’s floorboard, consistent with the weapon seen in the store’s footage.
In light of these events, Judge Shauna Bolikar ordered Gilmore to be detained, classifying him as a safety risk. He now faces multiple charges, including aggravated vehicle hijacking and resisting arrest. The Cook County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that he remains in custody without bond.
