Medvedev Warns of Nuclear Supply to Iran After US Airstrike
Dmitry Medvedev, a prominent figure in Russian politics, has raised concerns about the potential supply of nuclear warheads to Iran by several nations. This warning follows a recent airstrike by the United States targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities on Saturday.
As the former president and now the vice-chairman of the Russian Security Council, Medvedev took to social media, expressing his views in a series of posts reacting to the US actions against Iran.
He stated that Iran’s efforts to enrich nuclear material are ongoing, and he emphasized that this pursuit of nuclear weapons production will likely continue.
Additionally, Medvedev pointed out that while Russia has been supportive of Iran’s nuclear ambitions, several unnamed countries are prepared to supply Tehran directly with nuclear warheads.
Medvedev also noted that the US seems to be entering a new conflict, hinting at a potential ground operation. He reminisced about Donald Trump being seen as a “President of Peace,” suggesting that the current situation starkly contrasts that perception.
His remarks came alongside news that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araguchi plans to visit Moscow for discussions with President Vladimir Putin regarding Iran’s response to the US actions.
Araguchi mentioned the importance of their strategic partnership, highlighting their regular consultations and alignment on various issues.
In a related stance, the Russian Foreign Ministry condemned the US strike, labeling it a significant breach of international law.
The ministry criticized the decision to launch missile and bomb attacks on a sovereign nation, asserting that such actions contradict international legal standards and resolutions set by the United Nations Security Council.
On Sunday, Iran’s Foreign Minister indicated that the US would face “eternal consequences” for its military actions, asserting that their nuclear program is intended for peaceful purposes.
He claimed that the US had violated the UN Charter and international law by attacking Iran’s facilities, describing the events as absurd and promising to defend Iran’s sovereignty and interests.
