Trump Criticizes Rep. Thomas Massey Over Iran Stance
President Donald Trump issued a harsh criticism of Representative Thomas Massey (R-KY) on Sunday. This came after Massey collaborated with Democrats to take steps aimed at dismantling Iran’s nuclear capabilities.
Trump’s disapproval of Massey has escalated to a point where he has vowed to actively campaign against him in the upcoming Republican primary.
“Rep. Thomas Massey of Kentucky is not a MAGA. A true member of our movement doesn’t side with him,” Trump stated. “In fact, MAGA doesn’t support him, doesn’t know him, and doesn’t respect him. He’s often a negative presence, voting ‘no’ on proposals regardless of their merit.”
Massey stands out among a small group of Republicans who have openly criticized Trump’s recent military action against Iran, making him one of the most outspoken voices asking Congress to revisit the War Powers Act in relation to Trump’s decisions.
Interestingly, he had previously voted in favor of Trump’s significant spending bill in May and has also shown support for a resolution aimed at maintaining spending levels, including additional border security, through March of the next fiscal year.
Trump appears frustrated, labeling Massey’s actions as “a grandstand by a lightweight.” He remarked, “Yesterday we achieved a remarkable military success by neutralizing a significant threat. Yet, this ‘lightweight’ lawmaker still opposes it, which is frankly disappointing,” adding, “Massey is ineffective, weak, and he’s likely to vote against nearly everything I propose.”
Reflecting on his interactions with the Senate, Trump mentioned that he anticipates Massey will continue to disregard his legislative priorities, which could ultimately lead to Trump distancing himself from what he termed “this pathetic loser, Tom Massey.”
“The silver lining is that there are some outstanding American patriots looking to run against him in the primary. I’m fully committed to my campaign in Kentucky,” Trump promised. “MAGA isn’t about supporting a lazy, unproductive politician. We want to recognize the hard work of our incredible supporters from last night’s achievement.”
