Trump’s Military Action Against Iran Draws Mixed Reactions

Former Democratic adviser Dan Trenne remarked that President Donald Trump’s recent military actions against Iran raised eyebrows, noting that they seemed driven by what he termed “Trump Derangement Syndrome.” This incident unfolded over the weekend when the White House initiated Operation: Midnight Hammer, targeting three significant nuclear facilities in Iran. Many Democrats characterized the strike as “unconstitutional,” suggesting that Trump might face consequences for acting without Congressional approval.

In a post on X, Trenne, who previously worked with Hillary Clinton and Colorado Governor Jared Polis, urged fellow Democrats to rethink their rhetoric regarding Trump’s actions. He expressed his fatigue with the negativity surrounding the decision, stating, “I went to sleep because it was too depressing to write this. But it needs to be said by more Democrats. This isn’t a perm-eachable crime, and just as Obama didn’t ask for Congressional approval for the Bin Laden operation, Trump didn’t need it for this precision attack.”

He went on to suggest that instead of condemning the strike, the Democratic party could recognize the success in neutralizing Iran’s nuclear capabilities and commend the soldiers involved. He questioned why the party couldn’t celebrate this achievement, looking forward to more transparent intelligence briefings in the future.

Trenne also pointed out that Congress could express concerns about potential fallout from such actions while maintaining that future measures should require their approval, asserting that calling for impeachment could undermine the party’s principles.

As for dissent within the party, he lamented that many were ready to eagerly support calls for impeachment, seemingly disregarding Iran’s nuclear ambitions. Senator Chuck Schumer was criticized for his less than proactive response, as he called for enforcing the War Powers Act but faced backlash regarding his timing.

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a notable voice in the Democratic party, described Trump’s unilateral decision to strike Iran as a grave constitutional violation, warning that it could plunge the country into a long-term conflict.
