House Intelligence chair calls on Americans to stay alert amid Iran terror threats

House Intelligence Chair Urges Vigilance Amid Middle East Tensions

The chairman of the House Intelligence Committee has advised Americans to adopt “higher degrees of vigilance and situational awareness” in light of concerns regarding a potential terrorist threat linked to the Middle East conflict. Rick Crawford, a Republican from Arkansas, spoke to Fox News Digital, emphasizing the need for citizens to be aware of possible harm from individuals outside the U.S.

Recently, President Donald Trump ordered U.S. military strikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities. Many Republicans, along with some Israeli Democrats, viewed the operation as a success.

This targeted strike, which U.S. officials have described as not constituting war, took place following a week of rising tensions between Israel and Iran. Israel has expressed alarm over Iran’s approach to developing nuclear weapons, launching a preemptive attack earlier in the month that resulted in the deaths of key military figures and nuclear scientists associated with the Islamic regime.

In a memo, the Department of Homeland Security warned of an escalating threat environment stemming from the Israeli-Iran conflict. Meanwhile, Iranian officials reportedly threatened to activate sleeper cells in the U.S. if attacked.

For U.S. national security officers, both within and outside Congress, the situation is concerning. Crawford, who oversees the U.S. intelligence community, criticized actions taken during the previous administration, arguing that they fostered a crisis of illegal immigration that could let in malicious actors.

Historically, Crawford highlighted Iran’s role as a significant sponsor of terrorism and noted that, during the Biden administration, many Iranians were permitted entry with minimal scrutiny. “We really don’t have a solid grasp on their presence or intentions,” he commented.

He also discussed upcoming legislation intended to address the heightened terrorist threat in the U.S., stressing the importance of ensuring federal law enforcement has the right resources and mindset to tackle potential dangers.

Crawford pointed out that, while it’s important to remain vigilant in public spaces, Americans should not be consumed by fear. “If you have a sense that something isn’t right, trust that instinct and possibly involve law enforcement,” he advised.

As the situation develops, Crawford stated that he, along with the Intelligence Committee, is actively seeking more information from federal agencies to stay informed about ongoing developments.
