Diego Luna Critiques Immigration Policies on “Jimmy Kimmel Live”

Diego Luna, known for his role in the “Star Wars” franchise, took a strong stance against what he termed the “authoritarian” immigration policies of President Donald Trump while hosting “Jimmy Kimmel Live” on Monday.

Luna remarked that “no one will leave their land unless their survival depends on it,” criticizing the Trump administration’s push to deport individuals living in the United States illegally.

He opened the show by emphasizing the significance of Mexicans hosting the segment. The actor, who featured in the film “Rogue One,” reflected on his experiences coming to Los Angeles, noting the comfort he found in the city’s vibrant immigrant community.

“It’s a serious matter. I hope I don’t mess this up,” he shared with the audience, reminiscing about stepping into the U.S. when he was just 20 years old.

Luna expressed gratitude for the support he received throughout his career, stating that many of his supporters were immigrants or children of immigrants. He described how, during struggles of loneliness and homesickness, the community offered him love and camaraderie.

He acknowledged the quiet appreciation many immigrants have for the United States while simultaneously contributing to the cultural fabric of Los Angeles. Their stories and traditions, he suggested, enrich the community.

Luna also questioned how Trump could have gained such power and commented on the worrying rise of hate speech in America. He labeled the administration’s deportation actions as “very unfair,” reminding viewers of historical instances when immigrants helped rebuild the country during tough times.

He concluded by highlighting the unacceptable nature of separating families and expressed that a sense of violence and fear should not be tolerated. Immigrants, he noted, “need to know that their struggles are also yours.”
