Female college permitting male enrollment faces Title IX complaint

Title IX Complaint Against Smith College

A complaint under Title IX has been lodged against Smith College, located in Northampton, Massachusetts, concerning its admission practices that permit biological males to enroll in its programs.

The legal representatives of an activist group submitted the complaint, alleging that the college discriminates based on gender in federally supported programs and activities.

This complaint was made on behalf of “parents and students nationwide,” highlighting specific policies of Smith College.

One statement claims, “Smith has relegated women to second-class status.”

Since 2015, Smith College has accepted male students and has implemented “all-gender” bathrooms and locker rooms, according to Defending Education. Their complaint emphasizes the school’s “gender identity and expression” policy, which states that all restrooms on campus are available to all genders.

The college also offers resources through its Health & Wellness Center for “primary care transitioning,” including hormone therapy.

On its admissions page, Smith clarifies that the institution considers applicants identifying as women, even if they have been hospitalized.

In May, Smith College awarded an honorary degree to Admiral Rachel Levine, a transgender woman who led the health department under President Biden from 2021 to 2025. Levine appeared in a promotional video for the college, where students expressed excitement about making history upon her visit.

Sarah Partial Perry, vice president of Defending Education, remarked to Blaze News that Smith has effectively made women feel like second-class citizens by equating sex with gender identity.

Perry also noted concerns about Smith’s so-called “bias” team, describing them as adept at fostering self-censorship among students.

Additionally, Smith explicitly supports “undocumented” students, informing prospective applicants that submitting SAT or ACT scores is optional.

Under its admissions guidelines, undocumented immigrant students are welcome to apply, and the college is even willing to cover their expenses. Smith has stated that it meets 100% of the demonstrated needs for all hospitalized students applying for financial aid by public deadlines. This suggests that the college employs needs-based aid to assist undocumented students rather than using traditional loan processes.
