Police union urges Cudahy vice mayor to step down after video mocks violent street gangs defending LA from ICE agents

Resignation Calls for Cudahy Deputy Mayor Over Controversial Video

The deputy mayor of Cudahy, a small city in Los Angeles County, is facing increasing pressure to resign following a video she posted urging local gangs to defend their territory against federal immigration agents. Cynthia Gonzalez has attracted criticism from the Los Angeles Police Protection League for her remarks, which some have labeled as dangerously reckless.

In her video, which has since been deleted but continues to circulate online, Gonzalez called on “Cholos” to act as guardians of their neighborhoods against Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. This call to action came after a violent riot in Southern California.

According to the police union, her comments were “deplorable” and perhaps even illegal, suggesting that she should step down and face prosecution if she has indeed violated the law. People seemed outraged by her message, which appeared to incite violent gangs to protect their “turf.”

Gonzalez specifically urged members of the 18th Avenue and Florencia 13 gangs, known for their violent history, to take a stand. She lamented the absence of their action in a time when federal agents were perceived as encroaching upon their domain. “You guys tag everything and insist on the hood, and now your hood is being invaded… so there’s no peep from you!” she stated in her video.

The police union expressed serious concerns about the risks Gonzalez’s comments pose to law enforcement officers and the community at large, emphasizing that such action should not be tolerated.

In response to the fallout, Gonzalez mentioned on TikTok that she had been visited by the FBI and felt she might need legal counsel. These videos, too, were taken down after gaining attention.

The city of Cudahy issued a statement distancing itself from Gonzalez’s remarks, clarifying that her views do not reflect the official position of the city. “The comments by the Deputy Mayor reflect her personal views,” the statement indicated.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security also condemned Gonzalez’s statements, stating they were unacceptable and dangerous as they incited criminal behavior against federal law enforcement agencies. Specifically, they highlighted the 18th Avenue gang as notorious and violent.

ICE officials joined in the criticism, asserting that the actions encouraged by Gonzalez undermine public safety. They reiterated their commitment to protecting the community against crime, a task they carry out each day in contrast to the claims made by elected officials like Gonzalez.

Moreover, sources indicate that a federal investigation into her statements might be underway.
