Joy Behar on Trump’s Strike Against Iran

On “The View” this Thursday, Joy Behar, known for her anti-Trump stance, commented on President Trump’s actions regarding Iran’s nuclear weapons program. During the discussion, she expressed a desire for Trump to succeed in his efforts to weaken Iran’s nuclear capabilities, especially given the global threats posed by a nuclear-armed Iran. “I personally want him to be successful,” she remarked.

Behar’s remarks came amid a conversation about Trump’s conflict with the media over reports concerning a recent strike on an Iranian nuclear facility. She acknowledged the complexities of the situation but highlighted the necessity of addressing the nuclear threat.

Criticism has arisen around her statement, particularly in light of initial intelligence assessments that some have labeled misleading. Behar featured a clip from CNN and MSNBC, with one commentator referring to the media as “Scum,” then indicated that the impact of the strike may not have been as significant as claimed.

Some media outlets have since questioned official reports that asserted the strike wholly destroyed Iranian facilities. A report from CNN suggested the assertion was inaccurate, while the New York Times noted that while the Fordow facility was “severely damaged,” it wasn’t completely obliterated.

Behar also took issue with Trump’s rhetoric toward the media. “Why does he call them scum? Isn’t he the president?” she questioned, implying that such language was unbecoming of his office. She speculated whether Trump might have prematurely declared victory over the situation before truly assessing the damage done.

In a statement marking what he termed a “magnificent military success,” Trump addressed the nation following the strike. Behar remarked that it seemed like the information might have been predetermined by Trump, despite the ongoing evaluations of the strike’s effectiveness.

Still, despite her critiques, Behar reiterated her hope that Trump’s military actions could potentially dismantle Iran’s nuclear weapons program, reflecting her concerns about the dangerous state of the Iranian regime. “I think Iran poses such a risk with a nuclear bomb. I’m genuinely worried about nuclear conflict,” she shared, recalling a childhood fear of global disaster.

Co-host Alyssa Farrah Griffin expressed frustration with the situation, acknowledging that while there are differing opinions regarding Trump’s decisions, a significant majority of Americans—around 79%—believe that Iran should not possess nuclear weapons. She noted the clear division in public sentiment but also highlighted the potential risks of escalating tensions with Iran.

Griffin concluded by stating, “We’re not on the brink of World War III right now, so I think we should be cautious with our language.” This sentiment captures the ongoing debate about military action and international diplomacy as it relates to Iran.
