House Republicans Endorse Strategy to Bring in More Foreign Workers for Blue-Collar Positions

Republicans and Democrats Join Forces on Immigration Plan

Members of the House Budget Committee, including both Republicans and Democrats, have come together to support a new proposal that enables American companies to bring in more foreign workers for various blue-collar jobs such as construction, landscaping, dairy farming, and even roles at carnivals.

As President Trump shifts the immigration landscape away from Biden’s approach, Rep. Andy Harris (R-MD) has introduced an amendment to a spending package. This amendment significantly increases the cap on H-2B foreign visa workers that employers can hire for non-agricultural blue-collar jobs, nearly quadrupling the previous limit.

In addition, the proposal permits dairy farms to hire foreign workers year-round through the H-2A Visa program. It also expands the P Visa program, mainly used by athletes and entertainers, which would let carnivals import additional workers for operating rides and food stands.

Harris argues that the U.S. economy needs these foreign visa workers to fill positions left vacant by those illegal immigrants who have been deported during the Trump administration. He emphasizes the importance of ensuring that this new workforce does not get mixed up with illegal immigrants.

Republican Mark Amody (R-NV) and Democrat Lauren Underwood (D-IL) have expressed their support for the proposed changes. Rep. Chuck Edwards (R-NC) has labeled the plan as “thoughtful,” while also asserting that it won’t lead to an increase in overall immigration.

Currently, businesses are permitted to import up to 66,000 H-2B foreign visa workers each year to fill blue-collar, non-agricultural jobs. However, the H-2B Visa program has been criticized for various abuses, a concern highlighted by Breitbart News over the years.

This new plan aims to ensure that job growth since Trump’s presidency primarily benefits native-born Americans. This is notable compared to the Biden administration’s tenure, when a considerable portion of job growth was attributed to newly arrived immigrants.
