Michigan Church Shooting Incident

A deacon from Michigan reported feeling a strong spiritual impulse when he confronted an armed assailant outside a suburban church. This came just before the gunman entered the building and opened fire.

Richard Pryor, the deacon at the Crosspoint Community Church in Wayne, was the first to encounter 31-year-old Brian Anthony Browning when he arrived Sunday morning.

“As soon as he got out of the car, I noticed he looked fatigued, and I spotted a gun at his waist. He then pulled out his weapon,” Pryor recounted.

Trying to deescalate the situation, Pryor engaged Browning in a calm conversation after noticing his erratic behavior. He approached and asked, “Hey, are you okay?” To which Browning did not respond.

Eventually, Pryor used his truck to block Browning’s path, acting instinctively to prevent harm to the worshippers inside.

He felt an urgent duty to protect the innocent, stating, “I knew I had to do something, but it was also overwhelming.”

Browning managed to fire multiple shots, including one that hit Pryor’s truck, before the church’s security team returned fire, ultimately injuring the shooter.

When law enforcement arrived, they attempted lifesaving measures, but Browning was pronounced dead at the scene.

Pryor expressed his shock at the extent of damage caused, particularly considering the families present at the church that day. “I realized how serious it was, especially after everything unfolded,” he said.

Jay Trombley, a security team member who also shot back at Browning, described feeling a divine call to confront the threat. “Evil came knocking, but I felt God’s protection over us,” he remarked.

Another security member was shot in the leg but is recovering well.

Pryor’s delivery truck was damaged in the confrontation, further complicating his situation.

A GoFundMe campaign aimed at helping Pryor has already raised over $36,000 towards a goal of $45,000.

Interestingly, Browning’s mother is a member of the same church, and he had attended services regularly for about a year, as reported by local news.

At the time of the incident, he was heavily armed with an AR-15-style rifle and multiple loaded magazines, along with a semi-automatic handgun and additional ammunition found later at his home.

Authorities indicated that he had no prior criminal record and might have been experiencing a mental health crisis.

Reflecting on the experience, Pryor said, “I feel like this was a moment meant for me.”
