House Committee Calls for Testimony on Biden’s Mental Health
A prominent House committee is urging former White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre and three other ex-staff members to testify before Congress about an alleged attempt to hide former President Joe Biden’s mental decline.
James Comer, the Republican chairman of the Oversight Committee, has been investigating who in Biden’s close circle has been making key decisions as his mental health seems to deteriorate.
On Friday, Comer sent letters to Jean-Pierre, former White House Chief of Staff Jeff Zients, former Senior Press Secretary Andrew Bates, and former special assistant Ian Sams, requesting they participate in a transcribed interview with the committee.
This inquiry is part of an ongoing effort to examine not just the alleged cover-up of Biden’s mental condition but also other questionable decisions made by senior White House officials related to Biden’s powers as president.
In his letter, Comer emphasized that these individuals might hold “critical” details about significant decisions made during their time in the administration. He pointed out that Jean-Pierre, being so close to the president, is in a unique position to provide insights as she navigated her relationship with him daily.
He remarked that her assertions suggesting Biden’s mental decline is merely a result of “cheap fakes” and “misinformation” cannot be overlooked without further investigation.
If it turns out that the White House staff crafted a long-term strategy to conceal any issues with the president or to manage his duties under false pretenses, Comer indicated that congressional action might be necessary.
Interviews have already been set up from late August to early September, and any officials who do not voluntarily comply with the requests may soon face subpoenas to ensure their attendance.
Jean-Pierre, Zients, Bates, and Sams are the latest to be summoned as part of the Oversight Committee’s investigation. Comer has highlighted that other individuals, including Dr. Kevin O’Connor, Biden’s physician, are also implicated in this ongoing scrutiny.
In a statement, Comer expressed the need to hear from those who contributed to what he described as an “active investigation into cognitive decline and the concealment of potentially unauthorized executive actions.”
He noted that Biden’s inner circle repeatedly assured the public that he was “as sharp as ever” while dismissing concerns about his mental health as misinformation. Jean-Pierre and the other officials have yet to comment on the situation.
