Trump claims socialist Mamdani would 'destroy' New York City if he becomes mayor

Trump’s Concerns Over Mamdani’s Mayoral Bid

President Donald Trump is reportedly worried that if Democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani wins the mayoral election, he will “smash” New York City. This statement came from White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt during a press conference where she addressed questions from journalists regarding Mamdani’s recent success in the Democratic primary.

Peter Doocy, a correspondent for Fox News, questioned Leavitt about Trump’s earlier call for Mamdani’s deportation. Leavitt responded by saying she hadn’t heard the President make such a demand. However, she clarified that Trump, who has always had a strong attachment to New York, certainly doesn’t support Mamdani’s radical policies that she believes would negatively impact the city.

Leavitt mentioned that if Mamdani were to be elected, Trump would still be open to working with him, but she anticipated that their relationship would be fraught with challenges. She emphasized that the President collaborates with individuals across the political spectrum, including Democrats. Yet, she expressed frustration regarding Mamdani’s values, which she felt undermined the principles that make the country great, like common sense, law and order, and hard work.

Mamdani, who identifies as a democratic socialist, recently stood out in a crowded field during the Democratic primary, which included candidates like former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.

Liberal podcast host Donnie Germany criticized Mamdani for not condemning the phrase “globalize the intifada” during an MSNBC appearance, arguing it signals violence for many, particularly for Jewish communities, in light of past terrorist attacks.

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand also urged Mamdani to clarify his stance on the “intifada globalization” rhetoric, reiterating its serious implications. When confronted on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Mamdani had opportunities to denounce the phrase but refrained from doing so.
