Supreme Court’s reprimand of lower courts: Letters

Supreme Court's reprimand of lower courts: Letters

Issue: The US Supreme Court holds that judges in the lower court “exceed” their powers.

The U.S. Supreme Court has clarified that judges in lower courts lack the constitutional authority to block administrative actions from taking effect on a national scale.

While they didn’t delve into the specifics of this executive order, it’s likely that future lawsuits will arise.

The idea that a minority of judges could surpass the authority given to them by the Constitution contradicts the notion that administrative agencies might be overstepping as well.

Additionally, Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson’s assertion regarding equal application of the law seems at odds with her comments on President Trump. It’s no surprise that fellow judge Amy Coney Barrett offered a cautionary response.

On June 27, six justices of the Supreme Court created another pathway for Trump to bolster his government power.

They stripped the “federal” designation from federal judges, nullifying lower court decisions that limited presidential power. Lower court judges were the last line of defense against what some see as an overreaching presidency.

This shift is akin to waiting for the next twist in a gripping drama series. It’s fascinating, to say the least.

The Supreme Court’s ruling essentially suggests that if Trump engages in unconstitutional actions, such as efforts to erase birthright citizenship, it would be labeled judicial overreach.

However, the federal judiciary exists to ensure that neither Congress nor the executive branch surpasses the powers outlined in the Constitution.

Some might argue—perhaps rather skeptically—that the Republican-majority Supreme Court favors a Democratic president when it comes to overstepping constitutional limits.

The familiar trio of Justices Kagan, Sotomayor, and Jackson, regarding Trump’s policies, seem to prefer their interpretation of social values over the original texts.

Issue: Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa runs to become New York City’s next mayor.

It’s time for Curtis Sliwa to take his shot at being the mayor of New York City.

Much like Trump, he presents himself as a staunch American, a law-and-order advocate, and someone who has weathered various storms. Maybe he’s got some luck on his side, too.

Sliwa embodies a New Yorker ethos. He’s represented by the Guardian Angels and knows the city and its vibrant community well.

He deserves a chance to prove himself in the city he loves.

However, it seems like Sliwa hasn’t received much media attention. Critics argue that his chance to shine in the election has been overshadowed.

It’s unfortunate, really. Sliwa appears to be grappling with a lack of opportunities to share Republican messages, and it feels like he’s faced an uphill battle so far.
