Trump reports that Israel has accepted a 60-day cease-fire as the proposal moves to Hamas.

Ceasefire Agreement Announced by Trump

On Tuesday, President Trump shared that he has accepted the terms for a 60-day ceasefire with Hamas, as Israel continues its military actions against militant groups.

In a post, Trump announced, “My representative had a long, productive conversation with the Israelis in Gaza today. Israel has agreed to the necessary conditions to finalize this ceasefire. During this period, we plan to collaborate with all political groups to bring about an end to the war.”

He added that both the Catalan and Egyptian intermediaries, who have worked diligently to facilitate peace, will present this final proposal. There’s a hope that Hamas will agree, considering the broader implications for the Middle East.

Negotiations for the ceasefire have been ongoing for several months. Hamas had previously made what was deemed a “completely unacceptable” counterproposal regarding U.S. aid and Israel-approved terms back in May.

The group requested Israel to withdraw its forces from Gaza in exchange for releasing 10 living hostages and the remains of 18 deceased prisoners, but Trump’s special envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkov, quickly dismissed these demands.

Earlier in the day, a commander expressed optimism about finalizing the ceasefire agreement “after next week.”

Recently, Israel issued new evacuation orders in northern Gaza, signaling potential preparations for further military action against Hamas.

No detailed information about the ceasefire proposal has been disclosed as of yet.

The conflict between Israel and Hamas reignited after terrorist attacks on October 7, 2023, and many have been working towards establishing a new truce since the last ceasefire, which lasted from January 19 to March 18 of this year.

This previous agreement facilitated a two-stage ceasefire that included the exchange of hostages after 15 months of conflict.
