June border arrests drop below a single day level during Biden due to the 'Trump Effect'

Concerns About Southern Border Show Significant Decline

Tom Homan, a prominent figure at the White House regarding border issues, noted that worries concerning the southern border were considerably low in June. The total border patrol encounters recorded then were just 6,070, which he claimed is less than the daily totals seen during the Biden administration. Homan referred to this phenomenon as the “Trump Effect.”

This number marks a 15% decrease since March, and is a stark contrast to spikes during Biden’s presidency, especially in December 2023 when daily encounters were around 11,000. Overall, there were 8,039 concerns raised nationwide from border patrols—a figure lower than record levels set in March. The first few days of June in 2024 had more than 11,000 concerns, and the southern border alone accounted for over 7,000 in just the initial two days of the month.

Interestingly, new data indicates unprecedented lows in border crossings, attributed to stricter measures initiated during the Trump administration. Homan indicated that the total encounters in recent history have often dropped below just half of what Biden’s daily numbers were on various occasions. Moreover, he mentioned that none of these 6,070 individuals were released into the U.S.

Mid-June saw reports from Fox News indicating that both concerns and “Gotaway” numbers were at historic lows. U.S. Customs and Border Protection stated that on June 28, only 137 fears were recorded, the lowest count in about 25 years. Total encounters across the country, encompassing both typical encounters and tropical borders, registered a record low of 25,243—12% less than February 2025’s previous record.

Homan emphasized that under Trump’s leadership, the Department of Homeland Security and Customs and Border Protection achieved remarkable levels of safety at U.S. borders. He claimed the world is, essentially, taking note of the message that borders are closed to those seeking entry who cannot do so legally. “Our Border Patrol agents are finally empowered to secure the borders and protect citizens,” he added.

As political discourse continues regarding deportations and long-term immigration strategies, this marked decline stands out when compared to Biden’s approach at the border itself. Notably, Customs and Border Protection indicated that uncertainty at the southern border dropped by over 90% in April compared to the previous year.

In the wake of his inauguration, President Trump deployed troops to the border and set in motion plans to resume construction of the wall. Meanwhile, in Washington, the House is nearing a deadline on a significant legislative bill, which encompasses substantial funding for border security, including resources for ICE and the U.S. Border Patrol.
