Journalist Aidan Carney Faces Serious Charges Amid Controversy
Aidan Carney, known for exposing a significant cover-up in the murder of Boston police officer John O’Keefe, faces an astonishing 105 years in prison. He stated, “If you challenge the government, they will come for you. This is what happens when you do journalism and activism—you end up in jail for speaking out about corruption.”
In a twist, Karen Reed has been found not guilty of her boyfriend’s murder despite a complex cover-up. Yet, Carney stressed that he is still confronting a potential 105-year sentence.
Reflecting on his experiences, Carney recounted being arrested by the state police’s escape unit on October 11, 2023, while his children were getting on a school bus. “It’s surprising that in Massachusetts—known for its history—this could unfold like that,” he remarked.
He also mentioned the systemic issues he’s observed. “I’ve witnessed a lot, particularly concerning the challenges faced by Black communities. It feels like there’s a selective approach to these issues,” he mused.
His situation worsened, he explained, when he was arrested again just after Christmas. “A warrant was issued the day before, but that’s a whole other story,” he added.
Carney detailed a troubling encounter with a woman who had connections to state authorities. “She was in touch with the state police and the prosecutor on my case, which we discovered through her phone records. When we met, she expressed regret over her actions,” Carney said.
During their meeting, Carney sensed something was amiss, particularly after she invited him to her apartment, even though he noticed there were cameras nearby. The atmosphere escalated when, after a certain point, she became disruptive, creating a scene in front of her children. Carney, feeling empathy for the kids, decided to leave once she fell asleep.
“I left around 5 AM and actually dozed off while driving home. Thankfully, I drove safely and only later learned the police were trying to contact me,” he recalled.
Curiously, once he was out, the charges against Carney were dropped. “They didn’t realize the claims were baseless. Their plan was to keep me jailed for 60 days,” he explained. Host Matthew Boyle commented, “They were trying to stitch together two separate cases.” Carney characterized the entire ordeal as ‘evil,’ pointing out the malicious intent behind it. “The authorities knew they were framing the woman,” he stated, expressing frustration over how the police had targeted him directly.
Summing up, Carney concluded, “You’re going to criticize the government, and they’ll just come after you. That’s the reality of journalism and activism in Massachusetts.”
