A recent experience at a restaurant took a rather surprising turn!
While having lunch with my 87-year-old grandmother and six friends, we were taken aback when the waitress presented a check marked “old bitches” at an upstate spot known as Deacon Blues.
This gathering was on June 27 at the Casuare Cafe Deacon Blues in Watervliet, close to Albany, as I found out via a Facebook post showing the bill.
A group of seniors was in for a shock when the check labeled their table with that term.
According to a post by Keira Dinuzzo, “My 87-year-old Mimi and her friend went to Butler Bruce for lunch—they’ve eaten there many times. But this time, things went sideways. When the bill arrived, it was marked ‘old b*tches.’” The comment section was abuzz with reactions.
She added, “Is this how you treat older women, who are loyal customers? Butler Bruce, you owe them an apology.”
The group ordered around $12.50 worth of food, including BLT sandwiches and coffee during the busy lunch hour. Apparently, the server was frustrated, likely due to the mix-up when three members of the group couldn’t attend.
Dinuzzo recounted that when an elder returned a glass of water due to a concern about “black floating” particles, the server seemed dismissive and disrespectful.
In response, Helen Wilkinson, one of the restaurant’s owners, issued an apology in the comments on Dinuzzo’s post.
“We sincerely apologize for our employee’s behavior at Deacon Blues. Please know that we do not condone this kind of treatment towards our customers,” she wrote. “Our business thrives on many loyal senior patrons whom we treat with the utmost respect.”
It’s unclear whether any actions will be taken regarding the server’s behavior or if they will receive further training.
The restaurant owner did not provide immediate comments following the incident.
