Father and son die in Lake Michigan while on a boating trip and playing catch

A father and son tragically drowned while enjoying a boat trip on Lake Michigan over the weekend. The victims have been identified as David Amenow, 65, from Joliet, Illinois, and his son, Jameson Amenow, 20, from Rockport, Illinois, as reported by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (IDNR).

Indiana state conservation officers are currently investigating the incident. They responded to an emergency call around 4:20 PM on Sunday about a water rescue situation near Dune Acre, Indiana.

According to Candace Keller Amenow, the mother of Jameson, the outing was something her son enjoyed, especially driving the boat. She mentioned to a local news outlet that they had been having fun playing catch when things took a tragic turn. The ball went too far into the water, and Jameson began to struggle.

It was noted that it was one of Jameson’s favorite activities, and Candace shared that David, his father, adored their time together.

Preliminary investigations suggest that both were in the lake when Jameson ventured into deeper waters and found himself in trouble. Reports indicate that David attempted to rescue him but soon became overwhelmed as well.

A good Samaritan managed to get both individuals out of the water just before officials arrived with off-road vehicles. The conservation officers and National Park Rangers provided CPR and transported the two men by boat to Indiana Port, but both were later confirmed dead at a local hospital. The investigation is still ongoing.
