Jonathan Turley Claims Democrats and Media Must Face Consequences for Anti-ICE Violence

Concerns Over Rhetoric and ICE Operations

Jonathan Turley, a law professor at George Washington University, expressed concern about the tone from Democrats, calling it a “scheduled bill” following the firing of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents during a raid. This incident occurred at a marijuana farm in California, where ICE executed a warrant and fired at officers while the FBI announced a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of suspects involved. Turley mentioned during a conversation with America Reports co-host Sandra Smith that Democrats should take responsibility for their language surrounding ICE operations.

“There’s a troubling trend among Democratic leaders who seem to incite anger, essentially declaring open season on ICE officials,” Turley remarked. “What do you think will happen? The situation encourages some to feel they can resort to violence. You have ICE personnel facing protests that sometimes escalate to violence.”

He also noted that California’s Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom criticized the operation, pointing out the significant number of unaccompanied minors who could be vulnerable to exploitation. Turley asserted that many Democrats ought to reflect on the implications of child abuse rather than focusing solely on undocumented individuals.

Following the ICE operation in June, protests erupted in several cities, spurred initially by events in Los Angeles. Some Democrats have since called for a cessation of operations to “restore order.”

Turley observed that media often glorify violent protests, making excuses for them while downplaying the narrative surrounding peaceful demonstrations. “In this instance, we had a raid on a cannabis farm where there were numerous undocumented individuals, including children without guardians,” he stated.

Resistance to ICE operations has also come from multiple quarters, including a judge in Milwaukee who temporarily halted ICE activities aimed at apprehending undocumented immigrants, as well as Nashville’s Democratic mayor, who released the names of ICE agents involved in local operations.

In New York City, an ICE agent reportedly arrested Democratic mayoral candidate Brad Lander for blocking an operation at a Manhattan courthouse. Additionally, New Jersey Democrat Ramonica McQuiver faces allegations of assaulting an ICE agent during a May incident in Newark.
