Florida Road May Be Renamed for Trump
A road in Florida that leads to Mar-a-Lago might soon bear President Donald Trump’s name. This effort reflects a broader trend among lawmakers nationwide to honor the current president.
This week, the Palm Beach County Commissioners unanimously approved a proposal to rename South Boulevard as “President Donald J. Trump Boulevard,” according to reports.
This east-west route is significant as it serves as the main path for Trump’s convoy when he arrives at and departs from his estate and Palm Beach International Airport.
Supporters often gather along South Boulevard to wave at Trump during his trips back to Florida from Washington.
Interestingly, this wouldn’t be the first boulevard in Palm Beach County named after a Republican president. In the early 1990s, Delray Beach, located about 20 miles to the south, had streets renamed to honor former President George H.W. Bush.
Moreover, former Democratic President Barack Obama has two roads named after him in Palm Beach County. In 2015, a road in Riviera Beach, roughly 12 miles north of Palm Beach, was named the Barack Obama Highway, following another renaming in Pahokee City.
The Federal Highways Administration mentioned to Fox News Digital that they don’t maintain a directory of federal roads named after U.S. presidents. However, a list from the U.S. Census Bureau in 1993 revealed that George Washington has the most roads named after him across the country.
Following Washington, Abraham Lincoln takes the second spot, with Andrew Jackson, the seventh president, in third.
Johnson—both Andrew and Lyndon B.—comes next, while other notable mentions include Thomas Jefferson, Woodrow Wilson, and both John Adams and John Quincy Adams. Modern presidents also have numerous highways named for them, including John F. Kennedy, Ronald Reagan, and Barack Obama.
Reagan has several highways in various states like Georgia, Ohio, and California named in his honor. Similarly, Obama is recognized on roads in multiple states, including Florida, Illinois, and Mississippi.
Kennedy’s name appears on highways in places like Chicago and Cambridge, Massachusetts. A series of streets in Minneapolis are named in chronological order after each president.
Interestingly, a stretch of highway in Oklahoma was renamed for Trump in 2021, and states like Arizona and Kentucky are considering similar legislation.
Additionally, there’s a route named after Trump in Hialeah, a Miami suburb.
According to Florida law, if a road or bridge spans multiple cities or counties, local governments must pass a resolution supporting the name change before any signage is erected. Since South Boulevard runs through both West Palm Beach and Palm Beach, they will need to approve the proposal as well.
