Abigail Spanberger, the Democratic Governor of Virginia, gives her response to Trump's State of the Union speech.

Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger posed three key questions during the Democratic response to President Trump’s State of the Union address.

“We are not hearing the truth from the president,” she stated on Tuesday night. “Let’s be clear and honest.”

She inquired, “Is the president working to make life more affordable for you and your family?”

Another question followed: “Is he working to keep Americans safe at home and abroad?”

Lastly, she asked, “Does the president work for you?”

Spanberger drew attention to the increased prices stemming from Trump’s trade policies.

She remarked on the historical significance of the House of Burgesses in Jamestown, Virginia, where her speech was delivered, noting its roots in American democracy.

The governor also confronted Trump about his administration’s approach to immigration enforcement.

“Our president is sending poorly trained federal agents into our cities where they arrest and detain American citizens and aspiring Americans,” she expressed.

“Every minute spent instilling fear detracts from essential investigations into serious crimes,” she added.

Later, Spanberger accused Trump and his associates of engaging in “unprecedented” corruption.

“He’s enriching himself, his family, and his friends,” she observed. “The scale of this corruption is astonishing: the Epstein cover-up, cryptocurrency fraud, and the accommodating of foreign officials, all while branding public buildings with his name.”

“This isn’t what our founders envisioned. It’s quite a departure,” she noted.

Concluding her remarks, Spanberger urged Americans to unite for a common cause.

She referenced George Washington, saying, “He encouraged all of us to come together with a shared purpose to advance our nation. That duty is ours once again.” She insisted, “It’s patriotic to pursue this common goal.”

“Doing so will ensure our nation remains strong not just this year but for the next 250 years because we, the people, have the ability to create change and advocate for what is right.”

In his speech, President Trump described the State of the Union as “powerful.” Spanberger’s address lasted about 13 minutes, while Trump’s was a historic 1 hour and 48 minutes.

During his speech, Trump honored the late conservative activist Charlie Kirk and celebrated the USA hockey team’s unexpected triumph at the Winter Olympics.

He criticized the Supreme Court for lifting certain tariffs, which he claims have revitalized the U.S. economy, and placed blame on Democrats for the affordability crisis.
